Overview
The Business Alignment Review (BAR) programme is designed to be adaptive rather than prescriptive, as business challenges are dynamic and require flexible exploration. A rigid outline may limit the depth of discussion, whereas an open approach encourages critical thinking and innovative problem-solving.
As Albert Einstein wisely said, ‘The important thing is not to stop questioning.’
Questions often lead to deeper insights than fixed answers ever could.
Before embarking on any transformative corporate training, organizations must first ensure clarity of purpose, alignment of goals, and a shared foundation. The Business Alignment Review (BAR) is a dynamic one-day program designed to establish this critical groundwork.
Inspired by the U-shaped process of organizational change where teams move from concrete objectives to abstract exploration and back to actionable outcomes, the BAR helps organizations and individuals clarify why they are pursuing training, align their objectives, and foster collective buy-in.
Whether initiated by leadership or driven by employee demand, the BAR ensures that every participant enters the subsequent training program with a unified vision, maximizing engagement and impact.
By addressing purpose, culture, and strategic alignment upfront, the BAR sets the stage for meaningful learning and sustainable transformation—bridging the gap between ideas and execution.
Purpose
The one-day Business Alignment Reviews aims to:
- Engender a clear understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the team’s business model and perspectives.
- Identify key areas for innovation and improvement.
- Develop ideas and strategies to align business operations with long-term goals.
- Leave the team with renewed resolve for the future of the business.
The BAR Approach
The BAR will be driven, primarily, by an ontological coaching process.
Ontological coaching is unique in its focus on language, emotions, and body as levers for transformation, which will include any deep cultural and identity shifts that the current state of the business and the management team may call for.
To ensure an effective ontological coaching session with the management team (5-7 people, recommended, maximum of 10), participants will be asked to engage in the session in the following ways:
Commitment to Presence & Listening.
Agree to be fully present throughout the session, except for schedule breaks, listening in order to understand rather than to respond. Devices will be turned off and kept outside the training room.
Language as a Tool for Change.
Speaking authentically and cleanly (eg. no blame, gossip, or vague abstractions) and willing to be coached on use of language and expressions.
Body Awareness & Mood Management.
Participants will be coached to acknowledge and own the moods in the room, and to shift them as directed, eg. somatically, through posture shifts.
Suspension of Judgment.
Observing interpretations without attaching to them as truth, and avoiding good/bad and right/wrong framing and limitation of perspectives.
Confidentiality & Psychological Safety.
Explicit agreement to honor confidentiality—whatever is said or done stays in the room. Vulnerability is vital for deep exploration and no shaming or blaming will be allowed.
Commitment to Action & Accountability.
Clear declaration of next steps—no vague promises. Declarations are speech acts that create new futures.
